It’s holiday month and I’m so excited for the festivities! A few of the reasons: First: I GOT ENGAGED THIS SUMMER, so no more wondering if any of those little boxes under the tree are going to be sparkly! Next, I’m NOT going be writing my book this season! (I’ve finished it, or mostly finished it.) At least I won’t be skipping schnitzel and cider and ugly sweater parties to sit in my writing closet this year. Phew. That feels good. I’ve missed a lot of fun over the years to write–perhaps you have too–even a ski trip with my guy a few years ago. But it’s BECAUSE of saying no to some things and saying YES to my bigger goals that I’m watching them come to life now (more on that soon).
In celebration, I thought it might be fun to put together some of my most useful, progress-making writing tips to help you get your words from your heart down onto the page by year’s end. Hope my little rambles are helpful. Follow along on Facebook for the rest of the tips. And feel free to share them with the writers in your life.

P.S. You may be thinking, “But Linda… it’s December 2nd. Shouldn’t you have started your 12 days on the 1st? Um, yeah… Doy. Looks like we’ll be doubling up today! When Dave Eggers sat down to dinner with Danielle (LaPorte) and me last night and said, “You’re Linda, the book midwife. I love your work…” I lost all semblance of sanity and feeling in my limbs and forgot to press publish on my blog after floating home. I mean, seriously? Dave Eggers? I can’t be expected to be able to count after that! The take away here? You never know who’s paying attention to what you fling out into the world. (And yes, those are the amazing authors B.J. Novak and Mindy Kaling… another reason why living in L.A. is highly addictive.)
P.S.S. This Thanksgiving I felt a hankering to start volunteering somewhere, but wasn’t sure where. Now I know. If you haven’t heard about Dave’s creative writing and tutoring centers for kids, you’re going to LOVE how this mega author has channeled his heart and talents. Over 30,000 school kids have been/are being tutored and nearly 900 publishing projects created. Whoa. I can’t wait for those forth graders to absolutely kick my ass in math! xx
